Terminal lists non existing files

I have only one folder on my desktop. When I used "cd Desktop" and "ls" commands, in stead of one folder, it listed so many non existent files

if I run a crontab, it reboot time, this problem doesn't arise as all the files ending with ~ will be deleted from desktop at reboot time itself

@reboot find /home/dell/Desktop -name '*~' -type f -delete
