Yup, there's nowhere to drag that tab because the tab bar is not shown. I don't know what a proper solution could be.

As a workaround, you can open a temporary second tab (next to the one you wish to drag), then you can drag the desired one and finally close the temporary one.

(to clarify: there's nowhere to _grab_ that tab for dragging....)

Newer versions of gnome-terminal (e.g. the one in Xenial) have a hidden setting called "tab-policy" (search for it in dconf-editor) which allows you to always display the tab bar, even if only a single tab is opened.

Well, having a 'org.gnome.Terminal.Legacy.Settings.tab-policy' set to 'always' is no remedy to the problem on current gnome versions because a tab cannot be dragged outside the tab bar anymore.

Current versions of gnome-terminal (3.24 in Ubuntu 17.10) no longer allow you to detach and reattach tabs via drag and drop. Instead there's a context menu option that lets you detach tabs, but AFAICS there's no way to reattach them back.

Agree with mgedmin above... used to be able to recover accidentally detached windows, and this functionality appears to have changed.

Is this feature ever going to come back? I miss it. Affecting me currently in 20.04.

Edit: see here for explanation of why this feature was removed: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=769161#c13 (to prevent some type of crash, waiting on some fix in gtk)
