Bug Description
Currently Utopic has vte-0.36 (from Gnome 3.12) and gnome-terminal-3.6 (from Gnome 3.6).
Should you decide not to upgrade gnome-terminal (which would be a really bad idea because these two components are so strongly related – bug 1261619), please at least backport the rewrap config option: https:/
vte-0.36 added a new feature that it can rewrap the lines when the window width changes. In the mean time, gnome-terminal supports arbitrarily large and even infinite scrollbacks, and rewrapping a large amount of data requires a lot of time, which might significantly slow down the resize for those who have a large scrollback. We couldn't come up with a better idea than to delegate this decision to the user: they should decide if they're willing to pay the price of waiting for having both large scrollback and rewrap at the same time, or not.
Pairing up vte-0.36 with gnome-terminal 3.6 (without the backporting of this feature) forces the slowdown for everyone who chooses to have a large scrollback and then resizes the window. This – without the possibility of disabling rewrapping – might be a terrible user experience.
(But, even much better: ideally you should address this bug by updating gnome-terminal to 3.12.)
