Rectangle with cross mark appears in gnome-terminal

I am using Ubuntu 14.04. When profile-preferences window is opened in gnome-terminal in Unity desktop environment a rectangle with a cross inside it appears instead of double quotes. This problem is present in Unity only. Gnome-shell works fine.
