Bug Description

In Feisty:

Even when using the same font (Monospace 11) in gedit and Terminal, their fonts do not look the same.
It turns out they do not interpret the settings from Font Preferences > Details > Hinting in the same way:

Terminal shows no difference between Slight and Medium
gedit shows no difference between Medium and Full

After setting Slight and going back to Font Preferences all Font Rendering's options are checked and thus it is impossible to choose just one.

This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in gedit, gnome-terminal and gnome-control-center.

not a gnome-control-center bug

Changed in gnome-control-center:
assignee: nobody → desktop-bugs
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Invalid

Why isn't this a gnome-control-center bug, I can confirm the problem described by ecir hana.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Go to System -> Administration -> Font Properties
2. Click Details...
3. Change Hinting to "Slight" and click close.
4. Notice that all Font Renderings are checked.
5. Close Font Properties and start Font Properties again.
6. Notice that still all Font Renderings are checked.

describing different issues in the same bug is manageable, that's not what the summary is describing, you should open a new bug

OpenOffice behaves just like Gnome Terminal in Hardy Alpha 5 (Medium hinting gives you Slight hinting)
