Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

I am not 100% sure, but I believe this bug is introduced in gnome-system-tools (2.15.5-0ubuntu5).

Now network-admin looks for locations in /root/.gnome2/network-admin-locations/ instead of the current user's home: ~/.gnome2/network-admin-locations/

No, it is no duplicate of bug #67201. This one occured (I believe) after updating gnome-system-tools from edgy to edgy-updates.

that's the same problem, there is no migration code for profiles when the format or location change

Ok, it might be the same problem, but this bug is introduced in the latest edgy-updates, it is different from the bug that was introduced updating from dapper to edgy.

we know that, the update makes it use gksu again which means they are stored to different user directory

Might have been useful to add a note in NEWS.Debian then :)

Just had the same problem.
A friend of mine gave me a call, saying "I've lost all my network profiles. Please help!". It took me almost 1 hour to figure out what went wrong, since all previous profiles are still in ~/.gnome2/network-admin-locations.

@Sebastien Bacher:
When you say "we know that", is that the reason why this bug entry is marked as "rejected"?

If so, please consider 2 things:
1) Some users are completely lost after updates like that.
2) You lose the functionality of storing profiles per user (I know that's how it was in Dapper, but why removing it again?)

Now I know how to handle this problem, but a lot of other people will simply think: "whoops! where are my profiles?"

the bug has been marked rejected because it's a duplicate

oh! sorry. I've seen that duplicate before posting here, but I thought it was something different, because of Dapper>Edgy upgrade (since Dapper stores the profiles somewhere completely else, doesn't it?)

Thanks for your answer!
