Networking: gateway not stored in /etc/network/interfaces

Binary package hint: gnome

In Ubuntu Edgy Eft, on a x86 machine, with gnome 2.16.0,
when I launch System -> Administration -> Networking
and then configure my eth0 interface, it doesn't store the gateway value;
I need to manually add it in my /etc/network/interfaces file.

Look at the bugs on the package you have the issue with

To figure what package provides the binary you run:
$ dpkg -S /usr/bin/network-admin
gnome-system-tools: /usr/bin/network-admin

(you can get the binary name from the system monitor by example)

The bugs list page for that package:
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome-system-tools/+bugs

Your issue is number 4 for the top if you start reading titles for the
bugs on that package. You can also search for a keyword, "gateway" in
your case, which points to only 4 bugs on that package. Reading those 4
bugs it should be easy to figure if one matches your issue
