the group "games" is missing from the groups list on Hardy Heron 8.04.1. I used a command line to add myself to the group instead.

sudo adduser grantbow games

gnome-system-tools 2.22.0-0ubuntu9

1. Go to System...Administration...Users and Groups
2. click unlock, enter the valid password
3. click manage groups
4. verify that not all the valid groups on the system are in the list - I don't see video or games.

@Ioannis: could you please state your Ubuntu version, and the version of gnome-system-tools you are using? You can use, on a terminal:

cat /etc/lsb-release # installed Ubuntu version

and

dpkg -l gnome-system-tools # installed g-s-t level

Thank you.

@hggdh: This happens for both 7.10 and 8.04.1 (and I think it happened with previous versions also) .
gnome-system-tools versions are 2.20.0-0ubuntu2 and 2.22.0-0ubuntu9 respectively.

There are other examples of missing groups, such as "disk", "cdrom", "floppy", "www-data" etc.

further research shows bug 141067 to directly address this issue, so I am marking this bug as a duplicate. But, gnome spirit or not, it still boggles my mind why low-numbered groups (and users) will not be shown.
