Bug Description

Binary package hint: dbus

Switching dbus from on to off and on again [from System->Admin->Services]
on Gusty (with last upgrades) changes some behaviours.
ie. no usb sticks auto-mount in gnome, weird network applet behaviour...

Thanks !

System->Admin->Services fails to recreate Symbolic link in "/etc/rc2.d/".
Workaround:

Create an Symbolic link in /etc/rc2.d/:

#sudo ln -s /etc/init.d/dbus /etc/rc2.d/S12dbus

or restart dbus on every reboot... ;-)

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 RC or later?

Sorry, don't have the time to test 8.10rc now. I'll let you know in a week or so ;)

I have the behavior on 8.10 (latest patches) that I couldn't graphically login anymore at boot: this started after I have mistakenly stopped and restarted dbus from System->Admin->Services ; the only solution was to switch to VT1 (Alt+F1), login and run "sudo /etc/init.d/dbus restart" at every boot and then switch to VT7 (Alt+F7).

Creating symbolic link in /etc/rc2.d/ with "sudo ln -s /etc/init.d/dbus /etc/rc2.d/S12dbus" as per muhkuh2k suggestion fixed the problem.

Looks like a bug in g-s-t for failing to recreate the symlink it deleted

This is fixed upstream since 2.28 since we now keep the old priority instead of forcing it to 50. But since services-admin has been removed from Karmic, that's not really a fix. If it comes back in Lucid, please check that it now works. Thanks!

I'm marking this as Fix Released because services-admin isn't shipped since Karmic, and if/when it comes back again, it will include the fix from upstream.
