Bug Description

There are no common names for applications, there is no default popular keyboard shortcut to access the System Monitor (like Ctrl+Alt+Del or Command+Opt+Esc), and there is no tab for applications that the user actually knows are running (like open windows). We need to look at Microsoft's task manager for insight on how to make the System Monitor both for Ubuntu's target audience (everyday people) and big tech-junkies like myself. This can be a security risk, especially for people new to GNU/Linux and Ubuntu, as a serious problem could be running without the user able to stop it easily.

Thanks for rtaking the time to improve Ubuntu.
It would be the best to have one problem in each bug report, as it is hard to track multiple issues reported in one launchpad bug. The missing applications bug problem is reported in upstream GNOME as bug 143238 [1].

There is another bug about displaying human-readable process name, see https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=165703.

If implemented, the new Gnome System Monitor needs a default keyboard shortcut for all Ubuntu systems without users having to configure it. I propose Ubuntu uses the most popular Ctrl+Alt+Del and Command+Opt+Esc keyboard shortcuts to open up the Gnome System Monitor. This will make the transition to Ubuntu *that much easier for complete beginners!

You don't want to know how many times a program froze and I have clicked Ctrl+Alt+Del and all I got was a Log Out dialogue!

It is August 2014 and the Gnome System Monitor is still too complex for the average Joe. When is this issue being addressed?
