Bug Description

Ubuntu 8.04 beta, Simplified Chinese.
I installed "Gnome Subtitles" from "Add/Remove Application",then I run it. I can see the main windows. I click ”Open" buttion and select a str file.
it appear a dialog, message:"Could not open the file /home/myname/strfile.srt.The specified file is invalid."
the str can load and display in Smplayer.
So I can the encoding to utf-8 (was GBK), or open an English subtitles str file, or a simple filename, I have the same problem.
If I click "New" buttion, Gnome Subtitles close without leaving any message.

Changed in gnome-subtitles:
status: New → Confirmed

I have the same bug too, it is prettry much annoying. It seems to come from the text encoding.

For me, installing the following package resolve the issue:
libmono-i18n2.0-cil

It should be added to the package dependencies, since it's impossible to create or load subtitles without it!

Regards.
