It sounds like you might be reporting two issues:

* Cannot access software through Ubuntu Software
* VLC does not play DVD movies

So I'm going to make this bug about the more definite second issue. Reassigning to VLC.

Please provide the output of vlc -vvv when trying to play the DVD.

VLC media player is now working-OK. Thank-you
But still cannot access programs in Ubuntu Software?
