Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-shell

Running gnome-shell on kernel 2.6.32-21-generic on Ubuntu 10.04. There is no battery or volume notification in the top panel. Such features appear in many of the screenshots, so I am assuming that it should appear.

Second that on the volume indicator, the battery is showing fine (when charging or discharging).

So that's bug 552221. Just add gnome-voume-control-applet to System->Preferences->Startup Applications. We should find something for the Shell since it won't use indicators.

You can easily work around this in Lucid. Just remove the indicator-applets, and as said above add gnome-volume-control-applet to start-up applications. The log in and back out, the notification area will take over like usual.

Just confirming that Virgil Brummond's workaround also works in Maverick.

The first stable release of GNOME Shell is available in Ubuntu 11.10 which I recommend you try. The code has changed significantly since the preview release available in Ubuntu 10.04 so it's very unlikely that any one is interested in trying to fix these old bugs.
