Bug Description

I am trying to install new software from GNOME Software. When I enter my password, after entering the ^ character, it remains visible and the cursor jumps back to the start. I cannot enter any more characters after this.

Does that also happen for other password prompts, such as when you run in the terminal `pkexec true`?

Yes, basically for every password prompt.

How do you type the ^ character? What is your keyboard layout?

Is it possible you have a custom shortcut associated with the same key combination?

My keyboard layout is DE-CH. And no, I don't have set up any shortcuts with that particular key. I type it with the character next to backspace, normally.

Looks like it's a laptop and the numlock state is on. For some laptops that changes the behaviour for a region of the keyboard (it sounds like the key you're using is mapped to Home at the time). Try turning numlock off.

I don't have any numlock. I have an MS Surface Laptop Go 3, keyboard CH. I have tried turning FN on and off and CAPS on and off. No change.

I cannot reproduce after setting my keyboard to DE-CH, but I did notice that ^ is a combining character when followed by vowels, and indeed before typing another character I do see the I-beam cursor jumping to the beginning of the word (only when the password is hidden, not when it's revealed) but I can continue typing and it still works.

I don't know if this might help, but this happens to me.
