This is probably related to memory usage. Please check the memory usage of the Chrome processes:

  ps -axo rss,cmd | grep chrome | awk '{ total += $1; } END { printf("Total %.2f GB\n", total/1048576)}'

And if you have any more concerns that are specific to Chrome then you can report bugs about it to:

Thank you very much for your answer!

I put
"
ps -axo rss,cmd | grep chrome | awk '{ total += $1; } END {
printf("Total %.2f GB\n", total/1048576)}'
"
And it returned:
"
Total 4,23 GB
"
But my Laptop has 8 Gb RAM. Maybe I need to set something up?

Hmm actually Ubuntu should be able to survive a 4GB process, especially on an 8GB system.

If you can, while the problem is happening please run:

  free -m > free.txt
  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and attach the resulting text files here.

Changed in ubuntu:
status: Invalid → Incomplete

  • journal.txt Edit (2.1 MiB, text/plain; charset="UTF-8"; name="journal.txt")

Here, please, I attach the specified files.
Thank you! I am sincerely impressed by your attention to my question. The
joy of receiving your help confirms me in the correctness of the chosen
operating system :-)

Thanks. It appears you haven't run out of RAM at all so I'm not sure why heavy memory usage, within the machine's abilities, makes things freeze.

affects: ubuntu → gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
Changed in gnome-shell (Ubuntu):
status: Incomplete → New
summary: - Google Chrome freezes the system
+ System freezes when Chrome uses >4GB of RAM

Here was the following joke:
1) VNC server doesn't start when I'm on Wayland
2) I'm on Wayland due to a glitch when changing keyboard layouts, when I do
it on Xorg it freezes the system ~ 100 ms
3) When I'm on Xorg, the Chrome hang doesn't happen, no matter how I
overload it with tabs.
