description |
This is basically the same symptom, but from many years ago: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1431128
To reproduce:
1) Suspend (I do so via the dropdown menu)
2) Turn off display. (Not sure if relevant)
3) Turn on display. (Not sure if relevant, problem occurs even if this step is after #4)
4) Wake from suspend (I do so by pressing a key on the keyboard OR the power button)
5) Screen either stays black or flickers for a second and then goes black
6) Press any key on the keyboard
7) Login screen appears (as if it was in screen-saver/lock mode before)
I'm guessing the bug is not very reproducible because you would have noticed it already.
Some unique details about my setup:
1) The default 20.04 installation failed to a bug installing the packaged Nvidia drivers, but skipping that and doing it after installation worked in all respects that I can see
2) My computer is custom, not OEM.

However, I should note that (aside from a few days after I installed the OS) the problem happens 100% of the times I wake from sleep
Some unique details about my setup:
1) The default 20.04 installation failed to a bug installing the packaged Nvidia drivers, but skipping that and doing it after installation worked in all respects that I can see
2) My computer is custom, not OEM.
3) I do have VMWare Workstation installed
