Bug Description

I tried to install Ubuntu 20.04 official on VMWare.
But I couldn't switch pages in "Show Applications".

1. create new machine on VWMARE
2. specify the path of ubuntu-20.04-desktop-amd64.iso to CD/DVD(SATA) drive.
3. boot the virtual machine.
4. choose "Try Ubuntu".
5. choose "Show Applications" icon.
6. choose gray circle icon to switch pages.
7. But the page will not be switched.

The daily build around at Apr 17 of Ubuntu 20.04 works well.
(I removed the daily builds from that time, So I can't reconfirm the newer daily build.
But I think I didn't experience such issue.)

I'll show these sha1sum of ISOs which I tried.

58fcddef2be2b0cea9406a408701f8d65529fc89 focal-desktop-amd64.iso => OK
657c603c1f1ea7beb28d00a4c589b2f2698d832c ubuntu-20.04-desktop-amd64.iso => NG

Note:

I'm using VMWare ver 15.5.1 build-15018445.
But it didn't happen on Intel NUC (which is installed ubuntu 19.10).

Please test on VMware, virtualbox before release.

Many windows users use those virtual machine to use Linux instead of using on physical machines.

Could you also add the 'journalctl -b 0' log from the session after triggering the issue?

Seems the issue only occurs at low resolution.

It's also unclear if the problem is specific to ubuntu-dock like some of our other overview bugs are. When I disabled ubuntu-dock the bug stopped happening. But when I re-enabled it the bug also stopped happening.

I'm also affected by this bug. Only to me it happens when I put my Dell Laptop e7470 into the docking station. Attached to the docking station are 2 monitors: Dell 21" @ 1920x1080 and a Dell 18" @ 1600x1200. The applications menu does not scroll down when the 2nd Monitor is attached. Confirmed that by unpluging it. As soon a it's plugged in, the menu won't scroll and the bottom line is jittering. So it doesn't only happen on low resolutions, or would you consider 1920x1080 and 1600x1200 to be low?

Could be another dashtodock issue, other problems at low resolution seem to be due to it, would be worth testing without the extension enabled

In this duplicate of the bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock/+bug/1876889

I found this temporary fix by Sebastien Bacher (seb128):

$ gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock extend-height false

I does solve the problem, but the dock will only occupy part of the screen. I can live with that for now.

It's likely the root cause is the same as bug 1876889 but since the symptoms are different we should keep the bugs separate. At least to avoid confusing people.
