Bug Description

`gnome-shell` crashes randomly. Hard to tell why since the `apport-gtk` popup doesn't show up. The crash seems to be related to high I/O load on ZFS datasets.

Unfortunately we can't help you without some kind of crash file or dump file.

Please have a look in /var/crash for such related files and upload them using this tool:

  ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash

When done, add a comment here telling us the new bug ID.

I thought that'd be happing automatically (why not?). However, I can't use this function since 2015, see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1505368 for details.

OK, if 'ubuntu-bug' is not working then please try 'apport-cli' instead.

I didn't know this alternative, thanks for the info. However, the extremely low quality of apport strikes here as well (selecting upload causes the program to return immediately with return code 0 and no output which is in conjunction with a missing verbosity switch just inacceptable).

Oh, sorry, I forgot there is another hurdle. You will need to apply the workaround in bug 994921 first :(

This is something we need to improve on (https://trello.com/c/wjnNn7dC).
