Thanks for reporting this bug and help making ubuntu better!

I don't know if this bug is special to the ubuntu session or related to the gnome-shell itself. Something to check:
- installing the gnome vanilla session (sudo apt install gnome-session), reboot and switch to the "GNOME" session in GDM.
- you should have the Adwaita theme there. Check if you can reproduce the bug
- please report here if you can reproduce it. If there is a bug in that session, do you mind filing the bug against upstream bugzilla in gnome-shell?

affects: ubuntu-themes (Ubuntu) → gnome-shell (Ubuntu)

Changed in gnome-shell (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low
