Bug Description

ubuntu 17.10 (gnome 3.24.2)
4.11.0-13-generic
GeForce GTX 1050 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 - 384.59
AMD® Fx(tm)-4170 quad-core processor × 4
monitor 3840x2160 (dvi)

It happens on 1 of 3 times. I don't know what causes that.

When I am going to leave my pc for several hours I put it first on suspend/sleep mode. At about one third of resumes (from suspend mode) a black screen occurs and there is nothing I could do about it (except from hard reset). If something is pressed by keyboard like 'ctrl+alt+F1' or F2, screen starts again black (it searches for signal - backlight turned on - working mode). If nothing is pressed by keyboard, the screen closes after 1-2sec (backlight turned off - standby mode).

It sounds like you might have hit a gnome-shell crash, but we can't debug the issue without any details of what/where crashed.

Please have a look in /var/crash/ and for each .crash file run something like:
  ubuntu-bug /path/to/file.crash

AMD Ryzen5 1600

A similar phenomenon is occurring on my system.
In my environment, that do not react to the keyboard.

`ls -a /var/crash/` is nothing.

I did it. The only crash that did not open ubuntu-bug was "_usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash". I don't know if that is relevant to the problem.

If I could do anything to add more info, please tell me.

The problem wasn't just a crash. It happens about every three in a row times that I returned my pc from sleep.

Meaning..
1. press sleep button on keyboard -> pc goes to sleep
2. press power button -> artful returns normally
3. press sleep button on keyboard -> pc goes to sleep
4. press power button -> artful returns normally
5. press sleep button on keyboard -> pc goes to sleep
6. press power button -> artful returns black without anything I could do to see anything on monitor. Although it seems that artful runs on background normally because on button press monitor starts again on black ..and then closes again

Please run:

  ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash

And let us know the new bug ID that is created.

I ran "sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash" and I get the errors:
1) on terminal: Gtk-Message: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is discouraged.
2) on gtk window: Error('Incorrect padding',)

Although somehow, maybe after some recent update, problem was solved!

I encountered a similar problem during hibernation. I have created a report with `ubuntu-bug`. Also attaching crash logs for perusal
