Bug Description

I can login using unity but when I choose gnome it takes while and the screen turns black and eventually it brings me back to the login page. this only started happening after upgrading to ubuntu 17.10.

I've tried removing the .Xauthority file. I've also tried purging Nvidia drivers.

This bug happens to me quite frequently (from once to three times per day) and it's quite annoying.

It appears to be random even if sometimes it happens when I try to open the notification window (in the topbar clicking on the date time)
