Bug Description

When I close the lid of my laptop and open it up again, I input my password through the gdm screen and then when the desktop reappears, I am able to move the pointer on the screen but cannot click on anything. The laptop isn't completely frozen (I can open up a tty terminal using the Ctrl + Alt + F1 shortcut) but the desktop is unresponsive and I have to restart gnome-shell to get the desktop working again.

Does this freeze still happen if you disable all gnome-shell extensions?

Hi Tim

Thanks for your reply. I tried enabling and disabling the extensions one by one and it turns out that this crash is being caused by the Gnome Shell "Message Notifier" extension. Is there any way I can report this bug to the extension author?

Thanks

Hi, I suffer from exactly the same bug, but don't have any enabled extension. However, I have noticed that this bug seems to only occuer when two users are logged at the same time (using the "switch user" feature). In this case, the shell is unresponsive for one of the two logged users, but not for the other one.

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. I apologize that we are not always to respond to bug reports promptly. Ubuntu 12.10 reached End of Life in 2014. See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Please upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and re-test. If the bug is still
reproducible, increase the verbosity of the steps to recreate it so we
can try again.

Do feel free to report any other bugs you may find.
