missing option to disable gnome-shell lock screen shield

Bug Description

The new lock screen always displays a screen shield, which has to be manually removed by pressing Esc key before the password can be entered. This is annoying in comparison with the old solution, where the password could be entered immediately and is completely unnecessary for a desktop PC.

Please add an option to either completely disable the screen shield or better yet to make it vanish as soon as a character is entered or the mouse is moved.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

Is this possibly fixed in the latest version of gnome-control-center? (We're a version behind, so if gnome-shell is looking for the Lock setting in a different place, it's easy to see how this could happen).

This is unrelated to gnome-control-center, the only option in there is to completely disable screen locking.

Current methods for lifting screen shield as of 3.6 are Esc, Enter and Mouse Scroll Wheel and I am not aware of any upstream plans to implement anything further.

This is quite an irritating UI decision. For those that like it, that's fine, but an option should exist to disable the shield.

This was fixed upstream, by allowing opening the shield on any printable character keypress, and entering that character into the password field, so you can just type your password while the shield is still shown / moving away.

According to git, this change was first released in 3.7.92.

This is ridiculous, the problem is I don't have the option to remove this
stupid shield. I don't want it. I don't lock the screen on my home
workstation, I don't see a need for it. When I wake my machine up I want
the desktop, not a shield.
