Bug Description
I was looking at bug #1868420 during a bug triage session and in trying to reproduce the reported behaviour I got a quite different result:
Ubuntu 24.04.3 after doing all applicable upgrades, GNOME 46 on Wayland, Nautilus 1:46.4-ubuntu0.2, ubuntu-dock 90ubuntu3.
- Started a compression files operation (slow operation)
- Monitored Nautilus own progress bar (displayed accordingly)
- Monitored the progress bar shown in the dock (no forward progress, stayed at 0 all the time)
Whether I closed Nautilus or not no progress would be shown in the dock. Eventually a little later after the system notification is shown advertising that the operation completed, the progress bar, which was still showing no progress, finally disappears.
With Ubuntu 26.04 (dev branch) I originally got yet another behaviour: the progress bar didn't even show up. But that was three weeks ago. Testing again today with the following versions I see the same behaviour reported for Noble (progress bar visible but always at 0 independent of whether Nautilus is open or closed).
GNOME 49 on Wayland, Nautilus 1:49.1-2ubuntu3, ubuntu-dock 102ubuntu2.
The attached screenshot is from the 26.04 device, it shows the copy operation about 70% done but the progress bar in the dock remains at 0.

This seems to overlap with bug 2062980 enough that we can call them the same bug. To avoid further duplicates we'd only need to ensure a fix is tested with multiple operations - copy, compression, etc.
