User session crash directly after login and user is back at login screen.

Bug Description
After upgrade from Ubuntu 17.04 I was no longer able to login. First I thought it was because of the new display server but the same thing happened when using X.
I did a reset of dconf and was then able to login to the GNOME session, but trying to login to the Ubuntu session the screen blackout out shortly after entering the password and I was back at the login screen.
I found that if I enabled the Ubuntu dock in the GNOME session same thing happened - but while logged in. Gnome Shell crashed and I was back at the login screen. Now I was no longer able to login to the Gnome session either and had to do another reset of dconf.
I then uninstalled the gnome-shell-
