Bug Description

In Unity's dock, the mouse scrollwheel can be used to cycle through multiple windows of a running application quickly and efficiently. The dock in 17.10 should follow the same behaviour (it is an option in Dash to Dock).

I guess this bug is about making the option available from the GUI. In any case, for people that want to try it, you can set it by running:

dconf write /org/gnome/shell/extensions/dash-to-dock/scroll-action "'cycle-windows'"

Coming from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock/+bug/1730199 I've recently noticed there is one wheelmouse action available on artful dock by default : on the « applications » icon, it allows you to change workspace, which is very convenient ( no more need for the ugly activities button )

François, I can see in dconf editor a scroll-switch-workspace which does not seem to work if enabled ( default behavior ) or I don't understand what it's supposed to do. I've set it to « off » and can't see any difference.

Beside that if I set « cycle-windows » then no more workspace switching by wheel mouse on « applications » icon. Whatever I set for scroll-switch-workspace.

Thanks François, this command did enable the feature for me:

dconf write /org/gnome/shell/extensions/dash-to-dock/scroll-action "'cycle-windows'"

Any features that the Unity 7 Dock has by default, should also be default in Ubuntu's GNOME dock in my option. It took a lot of effort to get those default features into the Unity 7 dock, so by default put them also into the Ubuntu Unity Dock, so that effort does not have to be repeated. I don't think you'll get many complaints if you make this default. Someone who doesn't want this could just simply not use it and be happy.

So yes, the heart of this bug report, is making this feature default. Thanks for the cryptic work-around though.
