Open with other application not working for multi file select and not showing cascading menu for single file select

This is in Ubuntu 20.10 Groovy Gorilla.

Problem 1:
As shown in the attached image, on selecting multiple files and right clicking to "Open with other application", the option for opening the files is not enabled.

Problem 2:
When right clicking a single file, the "Open with other application" is visible, but does not show a cascading dropdown menu like it used to in Ubuntu 16.04. The cascading menu would help avoid some unnecessary extra clicks.
