Thanks for the bug report.

First please open the 'Extensions' app and ensure you don't have any custom extensions enabled. Please also run:

  cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/
  rm -rf extensions

and then log in again. If that doesn't fix the problem then please run the following command to gather more information:

  apport-collect 1951098

Hi,
Thanks for the response.
After removing extensions, logout/login and than lock screen:
- I see info about ethernet, wifi, bluetooth, battery, nightlight- I can
operate sound level and suspend computer
After putting back extensions dir, not enabling custom extensions,
logout/login and than lock screen, on top of that:
- I see live patch icon and can click settings (only see launched
settings after logging in)- I see and can operate tuxedo control centre
(launched windows I only see after logging in)
After enabling custom extensions again, logout/login and than lock
screen:

- same as above

So perhaps only live patch is an issue that belongs here, but that's
not something I can judge.

By the way I run wayland.

Groeten, Eduard

It sounds like this might be specific to AppIndicator. Can you provide a photo of the issue?

affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) → gnome-shell-extension-appindicator (Ubuntu)

It looks like either gnome-shell-extension-appindicator is failing to shut down when the lock screen tries to unload all extensions; or gnome-shell 3.36 in focal is too old to have that feature and leaves extensions loaded.

After removing a disabled extension, see attachment, locking behaves as without custom extensions

We don't need to track gnome-shell for this. I already know that at least in more recent versions of gnome-shell it unloads extensions when the screen is locked. When that change happened doesn't matter -- it's either Fix Released or not relevant here. The "not relevant" case would be if gnome-shell-extension-appindicator was failing to shutdown/unload when instructed.

This means either:

 (a) This bug is still open in gnome-shell-extension-appindicator only; or

 (b) This bug was already fixed in newer versions of gnome-shell.

no longer affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu)

Based on my limited testing, appindicators do go away in the lock screen on Ubuntu 22.04. So it seems like this issue has already been fixed and doesn't need upstreaming. We need more verification of that.
