dec 16 the following updates were installed after which gnome-shell-extension-appindicator stopped working as expected:

ever since this update, the HP printer driver applet (hplip-systray) reports:
"No system tray detected on this system.
Unable to start, exiting."

this used to work before dec. 16

gnome-tweak-tool indicates that is loaded, so not sure what's going on here
(have the same problem also on another ubuntu-machine)
