Bug Description

if windose 7 to maximum brightness. then reboot then everything is OK. You can set maximum brightness. If after reboot of Ubuntu in Ubntu. then the level of intensity that was at a minimum - is maximized. and the brightness decreases from this level. ie if you set it on the low level to discern that what is at all unrealistic.

Hi rellai,
Hmm... I'm not sure I totally understand your description of the problem. Could you please elaborate and clarify? You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html or the Ubuntu-X bug reporting guidelines at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting .

Hi, Bryce
I can't speak english very well, that's why it is difficult to me to explain some things correctly

After switching on the netbook and booting ubuntu, I reduced the screen brightness to minimum. After the second reboot the netbook have retained fixed brightness as I have set before the second reboot. Now the operating system considers that the new reduced level of brightness is a maximum level, and ubuntu does not allow to increase the brightness to the origin high level. After restarting the netbook by switching it off and on the fault disappears.

Ah, thank you, that's clearer.

X.org does not manage the brightness settings directly itself (although the kernel video drivers do provide it as an interface.) It is possible this is a problem in the settings service. Reassigning.

I have the same problem on an eeePC 1215N, Ubuntu 13.04 32 bits.

I found a workaround to get maximum brightness back:
sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 f4.b=ff

It resets the maximum brightness to maximum.
If it does not work for you, try another PCI device (find the adress with lspci), like
sudo setpci -s 00:02.1 f4.b=ff
