Bug Description

After login, at first laptop and HDMI/DVI mounted 1920x1200 monitor display correct resolution with different desktops (gnome primary on laptop). After several minutes of use, resolution suddenly changes to 1024x768 and both displays have the same image.

Opening System->Preferences->Monitors, the Monitor Preferences dialog now displays a checkmark in "Same image in all monitors". This was not the previous setting. Both monitors can be set to the correct resolutions (1366x768 and 1920x1200), applied, and made default.

System will typically do this resolution/image regression at least once after boot, often twice. After setting twice the system will remain at correct resolutions and non-twinned monitor images for the remainder of runtime until rebooted.

Behaviour is the same with a Dell or a Viewsonic 1920x1200 external monitor. Monitor is mounted on HDMI to DVI adapter.

This was a fresh install. I split the Windows 7 partition on the new laptop a few months ago, and installed 11.04 from DVD. System is up-to-date on updates.

Elaboration- Not really 'different desktops', same desktop spanning two monitors.

I upgraded to 11.10 on Feb 28 and on Mar 1 it happened again. So we can expand this bug to cover both 11.04 and 11.10 systems with ATI video.

OK Thanks I didn't know I had to do that, or had the power to do that- I'm used to bug systems where status is owned by the development side.
