Bug Description

Reproduction: start Oneiric from live CD; open System Settings from top right system menu; start "Screen".

Screen settings show up, then after a few seconds the widgets of the window and the top panel change for a moment, then the crash report window pops up. The settings window stays running in the process.

I noted that the system can reach a state, where the above behavior changes, though I do not yet know what steps one should take to reach the changed state. Maybe if I start with some other part of System settings instead of Screen?

UPDATE: OK, after some more testing it seems that:

- at the 1st trial right after boot: the widgets of the window and the top panel change, then change back, gnome-settings-daemon crashes, then the settings window remains in place.

- at the 2nd, 3rd or later trials to reproduce, the widgets & top panel _may_ remain in their changed state and the crash may not occur. After the first occurence of this behavior, it becomes standard, so I have to reboot to reproduce the crash again.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Is the issue reproducible with gnome-settings-daemon 3.1.90 or newer? There's no recent comments on this report indicating that, could you please test and comment back?. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

I did a full package update after booting the live CD. Now I'm using gnome-settings-daemon 3.1.91, and I still get the error described.
