Bug Description

HP DV3 2139TX Laptop

The fn+f4 combination of keys does not enable a connected external monitor. This used to work in Ubuntu 9.10.

I am using a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04, this has been installed for a few days and has been updated a couple of times.

When I press fn+f4 nothing at all happens, but other fn key combinations do work E.g. fn+f7 and fn+f8 control the screen brightness.

Here is what I did

1. killall gnome-settings-daemon gnome-power-manager

2. ev | sed -n 's/^.*state \([0-9].*\), keycode *\([0-9]\+\) *\(.*\), .*$/keycode \2 = \3, state = \1/p'

keycode 33 = (keysym 0x70, p), state = 0x40
keycode 33 = (keysym 0x70, p), state = 0x40
keycode 133 = (keysym 0xffeb, Super_L), state = 0x40

3. gconf-editor

> apps > gnome_settings_daemon > keybinding

This application does not appear to display an entry for the keybinding in question (enable external monitor). What should it be called?

Ive also attached the suggested files.

Does this help?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Oneiric Ocelot. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
