Bug Description

In Ubuntu Jaunty, you could completely disable the touchpad and in Karmic you can only disable it while typing. Users should have both options (disabling the touchpad while typing should be a sub-item of disable touchpad)

I agree that we need the "disable touchpad" back.

I would also find it useful if the touchpad would be disabled when a USB mouse(or any mouse) is connected.

What exactly is meant by "Disable touchpad while typing"?

I would think it means that - while typing - I am not able to either move the cursor or click with the touchpad (or both). However, I am able to preform both of these actions while "Disable touchpad while typing" is checked (assuming, of course, that "Enable mouse clicks" with touchpad" is also checked).

Is this setting broken or is there something else that it does?

When I check "Disable touchpad while typing", I can't move the cursor or click the touchpad while I write something using the keyboard. However, when I don't use the keyboard, I can move the cursor and click the touchpad. There was an option to disable the touchpad completely in Jaunty, but it is nowhere to be found in Karmic, presumably is was replaced by "Disable touchpad while typing". If you can do this while typing, then that is a bug you need to report, but that part works for me.
