Hello Nikola Yanev

Would you be able to describe when exactly your desktop wallpaper had disappeared?

Could you also try to provide me with more info about what could have caused it, so I can recreate the bug

Thank You

Aaron

Hi,
As far, as i can remember it was 22.07.2009 or +- 1-2 days, ans i don't know what can be causing this, even with new account, i think that is gtk+ problem or gconf. If you need more info tell me.

Hello Nikola

I have done some googling and have found another bug report

This bug report also shows:

GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

although it is for a different process "network-manager"

I believe it is an underlying problem with 9.10

I will now try to recreate the bug

Thanks

Aaron

Sorry for the delay ;)

dpkg -l gnome-settings-daemon: gnome-settings 2.27.5-0ubuntu

EYE: through terminal is the same, no change and the same error:
(gnome-appearance-properties:17222): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

Hey Aaron,
i've just found the problem, it's coming from GDM, and to be more precise, when it is being installed and set, it doesn't check the key in gconf to use background in default!!!

/apps/gdm/settings-manager-plugins/background/active

and this key is set to FALSE by default ;)

I will fwd it to gdm maintainers [gdm_2.27.4-0ubuntu]

if you wanna recreate it, just uncheck this key and restart X, and you will see ;)

there is no reason the gdm key should impact on the desktop where nautilus does the drawing and the key is set to true by edfault

Changed in gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Incomplete

i don't know either why, but since i found it i test it 3-4 times and the result is whan is to false-i have no wallpaper, and if set to true i got wall, but for testinf you should restart X between key seetings.
