Bug Description

Hello,

When starting the Ubuntu 8.04 beta 1 live CD I get an error message from the GNOME Settings Deamon.
I'm adding a screen shot for more details.

If you require more information please let me know how to get it and I'll make it happen.

Regards,
Frederik.

Hi,

It would be hugely helpful to attach your
/home/ubuntu/.xsession-errors file to the bug report
after you next see this error.

Thanks,

James

For me, this bug occured infrequently with Gutsy stable and now I use the Hardy beta 1 live CD the first time, it also occurs. Attached is the requested log.

Hi,

Thanks for the information. However the files that
were provided do not contain the necessary information
to find the problem.

Could somebody please try and obtain a backtrace? You
can find instructions on doing that at

and

Thanks,

James

could this be related to too small ram? Bug 208365 is about the same problem occuring quite often in a 128mb ram system.

The system for which I reported was an AMD64 2.2 Ghz with 1 GB of DDR
memory.

Kjell, at least not in my case.

The system for which I reported is an AMD Athlon 64 2.2 Ghz with 1 GB of DDR memory.

Apparently this issue may also be caused by a long startup
time causing the timeout to expire.

Did the machine take a long time to log in? More than 60 seconds?

Thanks,

James

Yes, that could be it! I'm quite sure it was longer than 60sec boot.

Sometimes it takes a weird amount of time for Ubuntu to log in (showing an opaque background while crunching the disk), but I cannot say if that correlates with having this bug. I will pay attention.

I'm asking about logging in, rather than booting, though the timeout
may start somewhere during boot, I'm not sure.

On the live cd the time logging in would start shortly before the boot
splash disappears I think.

James
