Session fails to start when root system full

When the root filesystem is full, LightDM and GDM loop back to themselves after a couple of seconds instead of starting the main desktop.

Ideally the user should be warned that it is not going to be possible to proceed, and what they need to do in order to allow login to proceed (make space available on the root partition, rather than their home partition).

with the fact that it's hard for a novice user to diagnose and difficult
to diagnose at a distance.

I'm going to reassign this to gnome-session - the display manager doesn't know if a session requires any hard disk space to run (it might not). So the session should really check for this if required and show a dialog before quitting.

For the purpose of writing a useful error message: How can someone make space available on the root partition if they can't log in?
