gnome-session 3.1.3-0ubuntu5 fails to source ~/.gnomerc

/etc/X11/Xsession.d/55gnome-session_gnomerc tests that $BASESTARTUP matches gnome-session* when deciding whether to source ~/.gnomerc. But in gnome-session 3.1.3-0ubuntu5, $STARTUP has changed from ‘gnome-session’ to ‘env XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME gnome-session’ or similar, so $BASESTARTUP is ‘env’. Therefore ~/.gnomerc doesn’t get sourced anymore.

Hey Michael, is the current .desktop hack a temporary one or is it supposed to stay this way?

Guh. Seb, I was hoping to have it stay this way. This was the lowest-footprint way of getting all display managers to set it.

I wonder how widespread use of BASE_STARTUP is and whether it's a good idea... I'll look at this.

$BASESTARTUP was just a temporary variable computed from $STARTUP by the same script (55gnome-session_gnomerc). But it would be worth checking if $STARTUP is parsed anywhere else.
