2009-01-22 02:00:00 Sarah Kowalik gnome-session: statusexplanation On intrepid, Gnome no longer offers the option that a non-superuser can shut down, only log out. For the superuser, 'shut down' just logs you out, and takes you back to gdm, when others are logged in. (Perhaps there should be an explanation here). Presumably one can then force shutdown from gdm. Looks like hibernate and suspend also don't work for non-super-users. It sounds like you accidently gave your friends administrator permissions, in which case, they should be able to administer the machines like you?
