OpenOffice 3.0 data loss after shutdown Ubuntu Hardy

Bug Description

Using Ubuntu (8.04) and OO (3.0)

1. Start OpenOffice writer
2. Open an existing document or a new one
3. type a few words
4. Shutdown the computer (by using the shutdown menu for example)
--> Unbelievable, but true: OO doesn't ask whether to save the changes!!!
--> as Auto-Recovery is NOT working in OO 3.1 (unbelievable this, too), there will be even no auto-recovery! All changes to the text are completely losen!

The computer will shutdown, after restarting, OO will start a auto-recovery (without asking before), but as the function is not working properly (known bug), the last saved version of the file will be load instead of the auto-recovery-file, which nevertheless will be deleted in this moment, so even manually you're not able to recover your data.

Damn it!

Works fine for me on Intrepid with the same version of OpenOffice.org....

Did you remember to wait at least 15 minutes between steps 3 and 4? Or did you set the backup time below 15 minutes?

Chris

ok. i've upgraded my from hardy to intrepid. then i removed my
openoffice 3.0.0 (no special ubuntu version), i added the intrepid
package sources as described in
https://launchpad.net/~openoffice-pkgs/+archive, and i installed the
ubuntu version of openoffice, which is now version 3.0.1
(openoffice.org-core 1:3.0.1rc1.2ubuntu2intrepid1)

- in this version, the auto-recovery function seems to work properly.
(in 3.0.0 it didn't!)

- but still, when i'm working with a document in oo (i.e.: writer) and i
shut down the computer (for example by clicking on the shutdown button
and chosing shutdown), no message window of oo will appear and ask me,
if i want to save the changes made to the document. i'm not sure, if
this is an oo or an ubuntu problem. when i close oo (by clicking on the
close-button), oo will warn me that there are changes to the document
which are not already saved, an it will ask me to save them before the
program will close. in my opinion, this should work in the same way,
when i shut down the computer. ubuntu should incite oo to close, oo
should ask me to save my changes - before closing and befor shutting down.

greetings,
armin

I think this might be an Ubuntu problem since it does not seem to pop up even for Gedit for me. If I remember correctly it used to do this. There may still be a bug in OpenOffice.org as well but currently even regular Gnome apps aren't stopping shutdown for me.

Seb - slangasek had this to say:

19:17 < slangasek> calc: GNOME upstream broke the use of the standard session protcol
19:18 < slangasek> calc: so that really ought to be assigned to gnome-session; dunno if a bug is already open

Er I need to clarify this appears to currently also be a gnome-session issue even after it is corrected there may still be an OpenOffice.org issue but it is currently being masked by gnome-session being completely broken in this respect.
