ran into this problem too, after the latest update i was completly unable to even get to gdm3 login screen, as i uninstall xorg drivers a long time ago..
Had to install the back, to get back to the desktop.
Hopefully we don´t get back to X11 times a week before 22.04 LTS release?

This also happens to me on my AMD laptop, this is why we use backups! Can't live without the gestures.

Same thing here after upgrading from 21.10 to 24.04 yesterday.

My GPU is an AMD and 21.10 defaulted to Wayland.

With 22.04 - the session is X11 and there is no "gears" icon to select Wayland.

I just did a fresh install of the official release 22.04 LTS image today, and hit this problem. No gear, and it defaults to X11, whether I have just the NVIDIA GPU enabled, or both the Intel integrated GPU and the NVIDIA discrete GPU enabled in hybrid mode.

I had previously installed a nightly build of 22.04 LTS (beta) last week, and had the gear as an option, and was able to use Wayland.

Sane problem here Ci5 10 + nVidia GTX 1650 + driver 510.

In the login screen I can't see the gear, add line to the grub same issue.

Interestingly, the gear appears only after hibernation. I can choose Wayland, but, once I log out everything is gone and I'm back to X11
