gnome-session crashes with pixman_region32_init_rect: Invalid rectangle passed

Bug Description
When the problem appears, all the computer screens stop showing the apps (and unity) for a moment, then everything recovers, including the apps. It's simply annoying because it's surprising and it takes a moment to recover.
I get this messages in journalctl, repeated multiple times:
