Main window does not resize when running under vmware/virtual box

Bug Description
When running Ubuntu 13.10 under VM with the following prerequisites:
* GNOME as session manager
* Either virtual box or vmware player
When resizing VM window (the host, either Windows or Ubuntu) GNOME doesn't update the window correct.
This worked excellent in previous version of Ubuntu and it's repeatable.
Just try to install a blank ubuntu 13.10 under virtual box or vmware player (I prefer vmware player).
Install gnome.
Log on using gnome.
Resize the VM window.
