Bug Description

Steps to reproduce:

- hit shift+PrintScreen
- Drag and drop to select a rectangular area of the screen to take a screenshot of
- don't close the Gnome Screenshot dialog. Minimize it if you want

Observed issue: the rectangular area that has been captured remains slightly highlighted (i.e. brighter) as long as the Gnome Screenshot application's dialog is open. No matter what window is on the foreground (or even fullscreen for that matter), you'll keep noticing the slightly brighter rectangle.

See attachment screenshot: you can see the rectangle approximately at the center of the screen.

Thank you for your bug report, indeed that's still an issue on xenial, not an important one because easy to workaround but it would still be worth resolving

importance: Undecided → Low

On my system the highlighted is also part of the screenshot, everything screenshot region that i take as a blue tint (very annoying).

I found a workaround by using `mate-screenshot` provided by `sudo apt-get install mate-utils`.

Comment 4 reveals this to be a much more serious issue than it seemed.

Importance should be raised at least to "medium".

Similarly, when taking a full-screen screenshot the whole screen is actually dimmed as long as the screenshot window is open. If you take several screenshots and don't close them, you can see the desktop get dimmer and dimmer.

This has been happening for quite a while on Ubuntu now, it would be great to be able to take multiple screenshots without having to close the app first, unfortunately this now results in stacking shadows that can be seen in the end result.
