Bug Description

This is seen on Ubuntu Quantal, in both the standard desktop image, and the Nexus 7 image. When running gnome-screenshot from hotkeys (and likely without), the save as dialog appears, and the name of the file to be saved is highlighted. This will make the user think this text box is active, and that typing will change the file name. This is not the case, as the text box does not have focus.

gnome-screenshot: 3.6.0-0ubuntu1

Expected results:
Name: field on "Save Screenshot" dialog has keyboard focus upon loading.

Actual results:
Name: field on dialog has highlighted text, but no keyboard focus.

This bug still exists in 12.10 and is a usability flaw because the 'save as dialog' pretends to have the focus on the highlighted filename but doesn't. Even worse, when you realize that the focus on the filename is not the focus and you click on the filename, focus gets lost and you have to select the filename again (or change it). This is very annoying and should be easy to fix.

I think should be pretty straightforward by adding

http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-screenshot/tree/src/screenshot-dialog.c line 236
line
gtk_widget_grab_focus(dialog->filename_entry);

The problem is still on Ubuntu 13.04. Where to get fixed version of screenshot tool?

Upstream bug (if you click through to gnome's bug tracker) indicates that fix was released in version 3.8.1. The version in raring is actually 3.6.1, so it's predictable that this bug still exists.

You might be interested in compiling & installing the new upstream package, or you could wait for Ubuntu developers to package it for you.
