Bug Description

Ubuntu 11.10 - fully updated as of 27th December 2011

I have encountered several times a problem whereby my laptop, set to lock after the screen turns off (after being inactive for 10 minutes) will show the desktop once I wiggle my mouse to turn the display back on. This will give the person operating the laptop full access for about 5 seconds, at which time the screen will spontaneously start to fade (as it does when you lock it) and then display the lock screen. Almost as though the lock screen activation program hasn't caught up with the screen turning off until a few moments after it is turned back on.

This is a problem because anyone can come to the computer and see exactly what I've been doing and have full access to the machine for about five seconds.

Another issue I have seen is where the lock screen dialog shows over the desktop (under the same circumstance of the display turning back on when you wiggle the mouse/touchpad). This means people can see everything that is running even though they can't access it.

This is in addition to the bug I reported earlier where the lock screen shows the top bar with the currently running application named.

Another issue, which is not so much a bug as a design flaw, is that the lock screen does, in fact, fade in instead of just appearing when you press CTRL+ALT+L. It should blank the display immediately or at least display the lock screen so that if you locked it to stop someone seeing something who, say, just walked into the room, they wouldn't just see a gradual fading of something sensitive.
