We are a few people here at the office that have the exact same problem: Sometimes the login prompt just doesn't show when the screensaver running. We all have Ubuntu 11.04, but only those of us using Unity or Gnome Classic have seen the problem. The guy running KDE have not seen the problem. We have all upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10.

When it happens, we can go to the console, e.g. "Ctrl-Alt-F1", and kill gdm-session-worker. Then login in again (but we will start with a blank desktop, must restart our programs etc.).

I am using the 'GL Slideshow' screen saver.

Let me know if there is further information I can provide to help debugging.

I am having the same issue, when the computer goes to screensaver tapping a key or moving the mouse will freeze the screensaver but will not display the login screen. However if I type in my password I can get back to my account. Obviously this is undesirable and won't work for computers shared with multiple users. I believe that this is related to GL screensavers only from info. that I have found on the web; if I use "blank screen" as my screensaver everything works fine. Have the same issue on two different machines both running 11.04.

Follow-up: If I set my screensaver to "fiberlamp" (a non-GL screensaver) everything works as it should. So this seems to imply that this is a problem only with GL screensavers. If there's any more info I can offer to help nail this down, please let me know.
