Bug Description
Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver
While using the Classic Ubuntu Desktop with effects, I've experienced Xorg freezes when returning to my desktop after the screen has gone blank.
If I move my mouse or hit the keyboard, the Floating Ubuntu screensaver will come back up but it is frozen, with no animations.
I can move the mouse and, as I've enabled CTRL-ALT-Backspace, I can restart X.
The problem DOES NOT appear to happen when using the screensaver by itself. After looking through my power management settings, it looks like the problem is partially related to the Power Management being set to put the display to sleep after a set period of time.
I've changed the power management setting to NEVER put the display to sleep and have thus far not had the same problem any more.
So, to my untrained eye, it looks like there may be some bad reactions between power management and the screensaver.

I am unclear why this bug is filed against gnome-screensaver. I have precisely this bug, and I do not even have gnome-screensaver installed. As the bug report says, it seems to be related to power management, not the screensaver.
