Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

release: 10.10 (maverick)
version: 2.30.0-1ubuntu1

replication instructions :

* create a new user account and when requested for a password select the option to "not ask on login"
* login with that new account
* press ctrl+alt+l

problem description :

since there is no password for that account the password prompt makes no sense and can't be resolved keeping the account locked.

additional information :

gnome allows for the creation of accounts that are not required to enter a password to login by creating them with a locked password but as part of a special group named "nopasswdlogin" which then is authenticated to login by gdm through its pam
as shown by :

  gdm auth sufficient pam_succeed_if.so user ingroup nopasswdlogin

adding the same line to /etc/pam.d/gnome-screensaver would allow for this accounts to be able to get back to their sessions if locked by the screensaver

this is somehow similar in use to #674563 but which is instead using "empty" passwords which had been deprecated by the "nopasswdlogin" functionality upstream as detailed in #393854.

note that the later bug mentions the need to add this also for gnome-screensaver but that was somehow forgotten probably because of the long discussion.
