Bug Description

I have the RELEASED version of Dapper Drake 6.06 installed and my video card is a Power Color built ATI Radeon 7000. My motherboard is an MSI MS-6341 K7-Master S.

Even though I have the power management parameters set to NEVER and I also have the screen saver disabled, the screen insists on going BLANK after a period of mouse/keyboard inactivity. I do NOT have the screen set to go BLANK in the BIOS. I do not have this problem when I have a M/S O/S installed on this system.

I would appreciate your looking into this. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. You may contact me at <email address hidden> (home) or <email address hidden> (work).

Thanks.

Yes, I set to NEVER in the power management section/menu. On occasions
I will want the monitor to NEVER go blank (say when I am installing
updates, etc.) and then on other occasions when the computer is just say
running FOLDING-AT-HOME, I want it to go blank after 3 minutes of
inactivity.

However, what I have found about the screen saver & power management
functions in this O/S is that apparently there is some joint
relationship to the functioning of the screensaver function and the
power saving function. I don't know whether this is by DESIGN or just
by accident.

What I have discovered that you have to do (or at least this is what
worked for me), is that you have to set the power management setting to
say 2 minutes and then set the screen saver to 1 minute. Then let them
come into function, i.e. let the screen saver kick in after 1 minute and
then subsequently the power management function will kick in. Then
restart the machine, then go back into the screen saver function and
uncheck the box but do NOT move the slider. It seems that if you move
the slider to a higher setting than that at which the power management
is set then the power management will not function correctly.

I never had this type of problem with the screen saver and power
management(monitor) functions in M/S windows, in that they were two (2)
completely INDEPENDENTLY working functions.

Let me know if you don't understand this or if you need more info and I
will be glad to provide it.

Thanks.

Thanks for your bug report. Where did you set the amount of time to
'never'? In gnome-power-preferences or in gnome-screensaver-preferences?
